INTRODUCTION
The history of production management is very similar to that of general management. It dates as far back as ancient times when man first organized to hunt and later farm, trade and build. The Egyptians for example, must have practiced some form of activity co-ordination in the construction of their famous pyramids.

The project must have had managers who had to contend with such operations management questions as the job design.

There are some indications in the early Greek civilization that the Greeks were aware of the benefit of uniform work methods and the odds of monotonous job. In order to make trying jobs palatable, for example, the Greek employed song and standard motion to achieve smooth work tempo (by Greek Worker 1976).
